“They committed themselves to the teaching of the apostles, the life together, the common meal, and the prayers.” -Acts 2:42 (The Message)
In one of the few verses in the entire Bible where the actual practice of having Church is described we see four basic elements displayed:
1.FOOD-Someone say, “Praise God and pass the bean dip!”Having a meal together around the presence of the Lord breaks down natural barriers and opens our hearts to deeper conversation and relationship.
2.TALK-“fellowship” or “the life together” as The Message translates it,is an important part of our spiritual growth. In the weekly Sunday bulletin a miniChurch tear-off is featured with three sections– the first, “Getting To Know You”, asks one or two icebreaker questions just to get us talking.
3.BIBLE -“Going Deeper In The Bible”is the second section on the tear-off.We read through the main text from the previous Sunday’s message, along with other relevant verses, and answer practical life-application questions related to Sunday’s teaching.
4.PRAYER -“Getting Real With One Another” is the last section in the weekly tear-off, where we pray for one another. This is often done in a “micro group” format where we split into groups of 2-3 or into male/female-only groups.
